Round Dance

<div>Round dances are more than just cultural events—they are community gatherings filled with teachings of unity, healing, and respect. By participating, students witness and experience the values of togetherness, equality, and connection that the circle represents. The drumming and songs not only carry prayer and meaning but also create an environment of belonging and emotional support for all who take part.</div> <div>Attending a round dance allows students to:</div> <ul> <li> <div role="presentation">Build Cultural Awareness and Respect: Students learn firsthand about Indigenous traditions, deepening their understanding beyond the classroom.</div> </li> <li> <div role="presentation">Strengthen Relationships: The circle teaches that everyone is valued equally, fostering empathy and a stronger sense of community.</div> </li> <li> <div role="presentation">Experience Healing and Joy: Music, movement, and laughter create a positive space for emotional well-being.</div> </li> <li> <div role="presentation">Connect Learning to Land, Language, and Culture: The round dance reinforces teachings that are central to Indigenous identity and history.</div> </li> </ul> <div>Bringing students to a round dance helps them develop respect, appreciation, and pride in Indigenous cultures while also strengthening school-community relationships. Gateway Marathon

Gateway’s 25th Annual Marathon takes place Friday, October 3rd (afternoon). Staff, students, and parents are invited to run/walk a 5 km course in Meadow Lake.   This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, supporting school trips, guest presenters, clubs, playground upgrades, and learning equipment.   <ul> <li>Pledge sheets go home Wednesday, September 17th </li> <li>Students earn prize draw tickets based on funds raised.</li> <li>Top 8 fundraisers get to pie a staff member! 🎉</li> </ul>   Volunteers needed! Changes to Yard Pickup for Busing Services

Subject: Updated Guidelines for Yard Pickup – Fall 2025 Bus TransportationDear Parents and Guardians,We are writing to inform you of updated yard pickup guidelines for school bus transportation, which will come into effect this fall. These updates are part of our continued efforts to ensure student safety and the efficient operation of our bus routes.As outlined in the revised <a href="https://www.nwsd.ca/documents/9ad3c5bc-3ed5-5ce9-bf8e-5c08fa768ac9/Parent%20Handbook.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer" class="editor-link">School Bus Safety Handbook</a>, available on our website, the school division allows for the pick-up and drop-off of students within their yard, provided the following conditions are met:Yard Pickup Criteria:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">There must be adequate space in the yard for the bus to turn around without using reverse gear.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">The turnaround must be maintained and passable at all times, including proper snow removal during winter.</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">There must be no obstructions in the driving path or turnaround area.</li></ul>If a yard does not meet these criteria, it does not mean that students will be denied transportation. In such cases, students will be picked up and dropped off at the end of the driveway, rather than within the yard.Parents are encouraged to contact the Transportation Department by July 15 if:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">You would like help determining whether your yard meets the criteria, or</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">You need guidance on where a turnaround should be placed.</li></ul>The Transportation Department will be happy to provide that assistance. Caretaking Services

Northwest School Division No. 203 is seeking applications for caretaking services. The successful applicant(s) will receive the service agreement for the supply of caretaking services for each of the following:  Carpenter High School, Meadow Lake, SK Ernie Studer School, Loon Lake, SK Gateway Middle School, Meadow Lake, SK Goodsoil School, Goodsoil, SK Jonas Samson Middle School, Meadow Lake, SK Jubilee Elementary School, Meadow Lake, SK Lakeview Elementary School, Meadow Lake, SK Northwest School Division Office, Meadow Lake, SK The successful applicant will be required to supply the necessary cleaning supplies and equipment in order to provide the necessary services for the school/office buildings and the yards. Job Action Update - Feb 16

There will be a rotating strike on Friday, February 16, impacting only certain school divisions. This action DOES NOT include teachers in Northwest School Division.This means there will be school on Friday, February 16.The STF also announced a one-day withdrawal of noon-hour supervision PROVINCE-WIDE on Friday, February 16.This means there will be no classroom teachers supervising noon hours across NWSD on Friday, February 16. Supervision will be provided by non-teaching staff and/or parent/community members. If you are an approved volunteer, and can help with noon supervision on Friday, please contact your local school.We are asking families, if possible, to arrange to have their children go home for noon hour on that day. Though supervision is being provided, it would be helpful to those who are filling the role to have fewer students than would typically stay for lunch on this day.NWSD respects the collective bargaining process and continues to be hopeful for a resolution.We want to thank you for your understanding and support as we strive to keep you informed.
